About South Metropolitan Health Service

Fiona Stanley Hospital is part of the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) (external site) that delivers hospital and community-based public health care services to a population of more than 648,000 people. The SMHS catchment area (PDF 99KB) stretches 3,300 square kilometres across the southern half of Perth. 

In 2015/16 more than 880,000 people were cared for by our hospitals and community-based services.

The South Metropolitan Population Health Unit provides comprehensive health education, disease control and public health services to people living in the south metropolitan area.

SMHS is led by Chief Executive Paul Forden and is part of the Western Australian Government's Department of Health.
